Airspace Management in the US Military

Looking for some advice here. I am really interested in aviation and I remember hearing somewhere about how the military manages airspace. Which US military branch is in charge of airspace?

The airspace isn't exclusively managed by just one branch of the U.S. military. Rather, it's a joint operation that involves several branches, depending on the specific context and mission.

For example, the U.S. Air Force traditionally plays a major role in airspace management through its Air Traffic Control units, which guide aircraft in military airspace. They direct everything from the flight path of cargo planes to the maneuvers of fighter jets.

At the same time, the Army has its own Air Defense Artillery Branch, which deals specifically with preventing enemy aircraft and missile threats. This involves managing airspace to some extent to coordinate defensive efforts.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps manage airspace over marine operations, essentially controlling the skies over naval fleets.

To mention the newer branch, the U.S. Space Force, while not managing airspace in the terrestrial sense, is responsible for organizing and protecting U.S. interests in space, which could involve coordinating satellites that play critical roles in navigation and communication for air travel.

So, while certain branches may take the lead in different circumstances, airspace management is a comprehensive team effort in the U.S. military.
