Navigating Military and IT?

Majoring in computer science here... I'm planning to join the military after I graduate, but I'd still like to stick to my field. Which military branch would offer me the best opportunities in IT?

Based on your interest in IT and computer science, you might be particularly interested in the United States Air Force or the United States Navy. Both branches have well-established programs for IT-related roles.

The Air Force, for instance, has an occupation specialty called Cyber Transport Systems, which involves deploying, sustaining, troubleshooting, and repairing standard voice, data, and video network infrastructure systems, IP detection systems, and cryptographic equipment. The Navy, on the other hand, offers roles in Information Technology, which include designing, developing and running communication systems using both hardware and software.

Both branches have invested heavily in technology and computing over the last few years and place a significant emphasis on technological expertise. Furthermore, if you're interested in cutting-edge technology and space, you might want to investigate the opportunities available in the new branch of the military, the U.S. Space Force.

Bear in mind, each branch of the military has different criteria for joining and different commitments after joining, so you'll want to consider those factors as well in making your decision. It's generally a good idea to speak directly with a recruiter from the branches you're considering to get a better understanding of the options available to you.
