Hey all, I'm currently a high school junior starting the college search process. Lately, I've been focused on finding really solid colleges in New York. Any insight and advice on which ones to look into would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Firstly, it's wonderful to see you beginning your college search early and focusing on specific areas. The state of New York houses some fantastic educational institutions. Of course, the "best" college will highly depend on the programs you're interested in.

Starting at the top, we have Columbia University, an Ivy League institution located in New York City, known for its excellent programs across all fields, including humanities, social sciences, and STEM.

You might also want to check out Cornell University situated in Ithaca, another Ivy League school, which offers highly ranked programs in fields like engineering, business, and hospitality management.

Next, New York University (NYU), located in the heart of Manhattan, has internationally recognized programs in arts and film, business (especially Stern School of Business), and social sciences.

Barnard College is a women's liberal arts college affiliated with Columbia University. If you're interested in smaller classroom sizes and the liberal arts, but still want the resources of a large, research university, you might want to consider Barnard.

If engineering or technology is your interest, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) located in Troy, and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester are excellent technical institutes to consider.

On the public end, we have the State University of New York (SUNY) school system, which consists of many campuses across the state like SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Stony Brook, and SUNY Buffalo which are known for their strong programs across multiple disciplines.

Of course, these are just to name a few. The state of New York has a wide variety of colleges to fit many different student preferences and areas of academic interest. Consider factors such as the size of the school, its location, programs offered, campus culture when doing your research. Good luck on your search!
