All 6 Branches of the US Military?

I've heard there's more to the military than just the Army, Navy, and Air Force, but what are all 6 branches of the military? I'm a high school junior exploring all my options for life after high school.

That's right, the U.S. military is indeed comprised of six branches. They are:

1. Army: As the oldest branch, the Army focuses on land-based operations. It's the largest branch and is responsible for all land-based military operations. The main roles of the Army include preserving peace and security, as well as providing defense.

2. Navy: The Navy conducts operations at sea. Its main roles include protecting American interests on the ocean, in the air, or on land. The Navy also has a special operations community that conducts missions involving special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, and more.

3. Air Force: The Air Force safeguards the United States and its interests through air and space power. It's responsible for aerial warfare and has command over air defense systems and nuclear ballistic missiles.

4. Marine Corps: The Marine Corps works closely with the Navy and specializes in expeditionary warfare. Their main role is to provide power projection from the sea, using the mobility of the Navy to deliver combined-arms task forces.

5. Coast Guard: Unique amongst the branches, the Coast Guard operates under the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime but can be transferred to the Department of the Navy during times of war. The Coast Guard's main responsibilities include maritime law enforcement, maritime response, and maritime security.

6. Space Force: This is the newest branch, established in 2019. It's responsible for organizing, training, and equipping space forces in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space. This includes tracking space debris, monitoring ballistic missile launches, and maintaining satellites that facilitate communication for other branches of the military.

It's wonderful that you're exploring all possible avenues for your future. Remember that each branch of the military has its own unique purpose, responsibilities, training process, and career opportunities, so make sure to do your research and consider where your personal skills and interests align best.
