I'm thinking about applying to DePaul University and I'm trying to gauge student experiences there. Has anyone heard any reviews or feedback?
DePaul University has many great aspects to offer, but like any school, it's suited to some more than others, part of the reason why first-hand reviews can be so important.
For one, DePaul, being the largest Catholic University in the U.S., promotes a community of inclusion. Students often describe the campus atmosphere as friendly and diverse. The Vincentian mission is about aiding marginalized communities and encourages students to be socially active–something many students appreciate.
Academically, DePaul University stands strong, especially if you're interested in media or business. The film school is nationally recognized and has excellent facilities. They also have a well-respected Music School. The Driehaus College of Business is also quite reputable and is located in downtown Chicago, giving students plenty of networking opportunities.
One thing to note is that DePaul University operates on a quarter system, which means you have ten weeks in each academic term. This schedule is faster-paced than the typical semester system, which can be an adjustment for some students. While this may enhance learning for some, others may find it stressful.
Location-wise, DePaul has two main campuses - in Lincoln Park and downtown Chicago (Loop). There's a huge variety of events and activities in these areas, which can enhance the college experience outside of the classroom. However, if you prefer a more isolated, traditional campus, this might be an adjustment.
Like any university, it's important to visit if you can and do your own research to see if the environment suits your preferences and goals.
