Social studies high school vs. specialized programs?

Hey everyone, junior here trying to figure out what's best for college apps. I'm at a traditional high school with a decent social studies program, but I'm wondering—does it look better for admissions if I had gone to a social studies-focused high school? Do colleges even care about that kind of specialization, or do they just look at the classes and grades you have?

Hey there! It's great that you're looking ahead and considering your options. In college admissions, while special programs can stand out, what's most important is how you engage with your opportunities. Colleges do look at your classes and grades, but they also consider the context of your high school. So, if your traditional school offers a rigorous social studies program and you're taking advantage of that—excelling in those classes and perhaps even getting involved in related extracurricular activities—you're on the right track. For instance, if you participate in Model UN or debate team and take on leadership roles, that demonstrates your passion for social studies beyond coursework. Keep pushing yourself and make the most of what's available at your current high school. Good luck!
