Best military branch for a future civil engineer?

Hi guys, I'm a junior planning to study civil engineering. I'm also considering enrolling in the military to help pay for college. Do you know which branch of the military would be best for someone interested in civil engineering? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) could be an excellent fit for your interests, particularly because it's one of the world's largest public engineering, design, and construction management agencies. The USACE is involved in a wide range of civil engineering projects dealing with infrastructure, environmental conservation, and disaster response, thus providing vast experiences and training opportunities.

The Air Force has the Civil Engineer Squadron as well, where you could engage in a variety of activities ranging from maintaining and repairing facilities to disaster & emergency response.

The Navy's Construction Battalions, known as the Seabees, are also heavily involved in construction and engineering operations. They build everything from airstrips to housing facilities and may offer you the hands-on experience you're looking for in civil engineering.

Remember that each of these options is part of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) programs in many colleges. This means you could pursue a civil engineering degree while participating in military training. After graduation, service commitment typically includes both active duty and reserve time.

Each service branch has its unique characteristics, opportunities, and challenges. So, while I have given an overview of potential paths, I encourage you to reach out to the specific recruiters from these branches or speak with an advisor at the ROTC program at your future college to get more detailed and personalized information.
