Advise on Culinary Schools in Southern California.

I've been cooking for a while now and I'm planning to go to culinary school in Southern California after high school. Anybody got any advice for me? Which schools are best?

Southern California does indeed offer some great culinary schools, especially if you're interested in a combination of classic and innovative culinary techniques. Two notable programs in Southern California are:

1. The Institute of Culinary Education in Pasadena: This school offers several different areas of study, including pastry and baking, culinary management, and culinary arts. Their facilities are state-of-the-art, and they offer a variety of class times and schedules to accommodate a wide range of students.

2. Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, California (The CIA at Copia): Although this one isn't exactly in Southern California (it's located in Napa Valley), the Culinary Institute of America is one of the most well-known and well-respected culinary schools. If you're able to, consider applying there as well. Their programs are comprehensive and varied, offering a solid foundation in all areas of culinary arts.

In choosing a school, you'll want to consider the style of cuisine you're most interested in, as some schools may focus more on certain styles than others. Look at the costs, program lengths, and study formats (part-time, full-time, evening classes). Also, consider location and any potential networking opportunities, as these can be very valuable for your post-graduation job search and internships during your studies.

Remember, a culinary career can be fiercely competitive and require long hours, so it's important that you have a real passion for it. There are many ways to succeed in the culinary world. You may decide to start at a culinary school, or you might choose to get your start in a professional kitchen and work your way up. Best of luck on your journey!
