Is a 1100 SAT score considered okay to get into good colleges?

Hey everyone! Just got my SAT scores back and I got an 1100. I'm feeling kinda anxious, is this score good enough to get me into decent colleges? Thoughts?

The term "good" is relative and depends on what type of college you're aiming to attend. An 1100 SAT score is actually around the national average which is somewhere near the 1050 - 1060 range, so it's certainly not a bad score!

If you are targeting more competitive universities or colleges though, you might find the average SAT scores are somewhat higher. For example, for more selective schools, the scores generally range from 1200 to 1600.

Keep in mind that if you're not satisfied with your score, you can retake the SAT. Many students find that they improve their scores after taking the test a second or third time. You can also employ some study strategies such as practice tests, review books, or even a study group to help you for future retakes. Additionally, standardized test scores are just one piece of the college admissions puzzle. Strong grades in rigorous courses, impactful extracurricular activities, and a compelling personal statement can all contribute significantly to your application, and can sometimes compensate for a slightly lower SAT score.

Remember too, SAT scores are particularly emphasized at certain schools more than others. If tests aren't your strength, you may want to consider colleges and universities that are test-optional or even test-blind. Many colleges adopted a test-optional policy because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and have kept it in place in the years since, including several highly selective schools.

To learn more about test-optional policies, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional/

Overall, an 1100 SAT score certainly does not close all doors to good colleges, but there may be schools where you'd ideally want to have a higher score to be a competitive applicant. Play to your strengths, and focus on crafting a well-rounded application that showcases your talents and ambitions. Good luck!
