Seeking honest reviews about University of Rochester

Hello everybody, I'm probably going to apply to the University of Rochester. Just hoping I could get a few reviews from anyone who's studied there. What did you think about the academicians, students and lifestyle there? If you could do it again, would you still choose Rochester?

Sure, I can give you a general sense of the University of Rochester, although keep in mind that experiences can vary greatly depending on the individual.

One of the many positives of the University of Rochester is the academic flexibility it offers. Unlike many universities, Rochester has an open curriculum where you don't have the general education requirements that other universities have. This allows you to focus on exploring your interests and dive deep into your major from the get-go.

The professors at Rochester are generally lauded for their dedication and accessibility. The student-faculty ratio is low, at 9:1, ensuring personalized attention. It's a research-oriented institution so if you're interested in that, you'll get ample opportunities to be involved in projects and learning off-campus.

Life on campus is vibrant, with students active in various clubs and organizations ranging from music and art to sports and community service. The Meliora Weekend, in particular, is a highlight of the year, bringing together students, families, faculty, and alumni for a weekend filled with intellectual and social events.

Living in Rochester, you'll experience all four seasons, with winters that can be quite cold and snowy. The city has a lot to offer including music (it's home to Eastman School of Music), history, science, and vast green spaces, including Highland Park.

As for whether or not one would choose Rochester again—this often depends on the individual. It's important to do your research and understand if the university's philosophy and course structure resonate with your academic pursuits and life view.

In general, the University of Rochester is considered a strong institution with unique qualities and a solid academic reputation. However, if possible, consider visiting the campus or interacting with some current students or faculty to get a firsthand view of if it aligns with your expectations.
