Art Schools in Washington State: Thoughts?

Hey! I'm keen on pursuing art and have been looking into art schools in Washington state. Can anyone clue me on what the art programs there are like? Does one school stand out more than the others?

Hello! Well, Washington State is home to some fantastic art schools, each with their own distinct approach to the study of art.

Let's start with the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. The college provides a strong fine arts program that leans heavily on visual communication and innovation. The multidisciplinary nature of the courses provides students with a broad range of techniques and concepts. Plus, Seattle's vibrant arts scene will give you plenty of opportunities to interact with professionals and show your work.

Secondly, consider the University of Washington in Seattle, which has an amazing art program known for its strong foundation in both digital arts and traditional studio practices. The program encourages students to understand critical and aesthetic judgement alongside their technical skills.

We also have Western Washington University in Bellingham. Their Art and Art History department offers a BA in Art Education, a BA or BFA in Studio Art, and a BA in Art History. They provide instruction in a variety of media, including ceramics, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

Lastly, the Washington State University in Pullman offers a rigorous program that cultivates creative thinking and encourages intellectual curiosity. It does offer a wider range of classes in terms of materials and techniques, including printmaking, sculpture, multimedia, and ceramics.

It's really up to you and your individual goals, interests and style which school will be the best fit for you. I would recommend looking at the art department's page on each school's website, checking out their course catalogues and maybe even reaching out to the department directly with any questions you have. Good luck with your pursuit in art education!
