Touring Cornell University

Hey folks! I'm really interested in Cornell University and I was thinking about visiting their campus to get a better feel for it. Has anyone done this recently and can give me an insight of what to expect? Like, does the tour provide a lot of information and is it worth the trip up there?

Absolutely, visiting a college campus like Cornell can be a valuable way to get a sense of the physical space, the culture, and the overall vibe of the institution. During an official campus tour, you'd likely be led by a student tour guide who could answer your questions and share their experiences at Cornell. Tour stops usually include major academic buildings, dining halls, libraries, and sometimes a typical dorm room.

While the information presented about academic programs, internship opportunities, etc., is usually available online, the primary advantage of a physical tour is the sensory experience and the opportunity to imagine yourself as a part of the community. You get a sense of the facilities in person, you see the buildings, you observe the other students and the way they interact with each other, and you get a feel for the campus layout, how spacious it is, and what spots might become your favorite study spots or hangouts.

However, do keep in mind that the experience can greatly depend on your tour guide and how thoroughly they present and answer your questions. Therefore, I'd recommend having a list of questions ready beforehand. Also, try to give yourself some spare time to explore the campus, the surrounding areas, and potentially meet with a few professors or students in the departments you're interested in, if possible.

In all, if you are seriously considering Cornell and it is feasible for you to visit, the in-person impression you get could be quite valuable in your decision-making process. Just remember, tours are typically informative but they are designed to portray the university in a positive light. Be curious, ask questions and do your independent research alongside.
