Insights on Central Washington University

I'm liking what I see on paper about Central Washington University, but I would love to hear from some actual students. What are the pros and cons of this school? What's the student culture like?

Response:

Sure, I can offer a few insights! Central Washington University (CWU) has a variety of strengths. It's known for its hands-on learning approach and small class sizes. Having fewer students in a class allows for more direct interaction with your professors, which many find really beneficial. CWU also has a strong emphasis on experiential learning, so you will often find your classes include practical components to apply what you're learning.

CWU also has a number of reputable programs—Education, Aviation, and Music are particularly noteworthy. For instance, the Aviation program is one of the few in the Pacific Northwest which provides flight training to prepare students for professional pilot careers.

However, it's also worth mentioning that CWU is located in Ellensburg, which is a small town. For some students, they enjoy the tight-knit community that these small town colleges can provide. But, some students may find that the downside is fewer cultural and entertainment opportunities compared to larger cities.

As for student culture, it's often described as friendly, inclusive, and laid back. Students often actively participate in various campus activities and clubs. CWU has more than 130 clubs, so it's quite likely that you'll find something that fits your interests.

Additionally, many students appreciate the natural beauty surrounding the university, with plenty of outdoor activities to do especially during the warmer months. However, keep in mind that Ellensburg is known for its windy conditions, which can take some getting used to.

One last thing to consider is the cost, as CWU is known for being on the more affordable side of four-year universities in the state of Washington, which can be a major plus point for many students.

Remember, the best way to really get a feel for a school is to visit and talk to current students if you can. Hope this provides a starting point for you!
