Has anyone here participated in NASA SEES internship?

I've been looking into the NASA SEES (Summer High School Apprenticeship Research Program) internship and it seems like a pretty cool opportunity. Has anyone here gone through this program and can share their experience?

The NASA SEES internship, indeed, offers a unique opportunity for students interested in STEM careers. It's not just about gaining hands-on experience; you also get to work directly with NASA scientists and scholars in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.

The program typically takes the format of a six-week apprenticeship during the summer. Interns work on team projects under the mentorship of NASA scientists. Some teams work remotely, while others have hybrid schedules with in-person components at the University of Texas, Austin.

In terms of the type of work you're likely to do, it's largely research-focused. Expect to be involved in data analysis and interpretation, among other work related to Earth and Space science. This could be anything from studying climate patterns to coding software for Mars rovers.

In terms of how competitive the program is, many applicants have excellent academic records and extracurriculars related to STEM fields, which are a strong factor in the selection process. However, your motivation and enthusiasm for space exploration and science also play a crucial role, so showing that in your application is key.

Although I haven’t participated in the program myself, I've heard from many students who say it's a deeply enriching experience. One aspect consistently praised is the opportunity to work on projects that are practically impactful and scientifically significant.

Finally, keep in mind that the application opens in early Spring and has several components, including teacher recommendations, so starting early will be beneficial.

Remember, the experience is just one factor, albeit impressive, in your overall academic profile and future college applications. But the real value lies in the unique perspective and breadth of knowledge you can gain from such a program, as well as the relationships you'll build with peers and mentors.
