Good colleges in Washington DC area?

Hi all, just started my college hunt and I'm really wanting to explore some universities in the Washington DC area. Anyone has any suggestions? Pretty excited about political science, but still exploring other interests.

There are several universities in the Washington DC area that offer strong programs across multiple disciplines, including political science. A few to consider could be:

1. Georgetown University: Well-known for its School of Foreign Service, and offers a great political science program. The school is located in a historic neighborhood but still in close proximity to downtown DC.

2. George Washington University (GWU): Located right in the heart of DC, offers robust programs in political science and international relations. Its location provides unique opportunities for internships and networking in the city.

3. American University: Has a strong focus on liberal arts. Its School of Public Affairs has a well-regarded political science program. AU also has strong programs in journalism and communication.

4. Howard University: A prestigious Historically Black University (HBCU) that has strong programs in both the sciences and humanities, and has a well-developed political science program.

5. Catholic University of America: Its politics department offers a variety of concentrations within political science. They also have strong programs in arts and sciences.

6. University of Maryland, College Park: While not technically in DC, it's close by and has strong programs across the board. They offer a distinguished Government and Politics major.

Remember to consider factors beyond the program itself - class size, campus life, internship opportunities, financial aid, and the school culture are all equally important when choosing a university. It would be beneficial to visit these campuses (if possible), or take a virtual tour to get a feel of the environment. Also, look into each school’s specific requirements for application, such as test scores, essays, and recommendation letters. Best of luck in your college search!
