Do all UCs require more than two years of a foreign language?

So I've been eyeballing some of the UCs for my college applications (specially looking at UCSD and UCLA) but I've only taken two years of Spanish in high school. I've heard some UCs require more. Is that true? And if yes, which UCs exactly? Feeling a bit flustered about it, honestly.

All UC schools require a minimum of two years of a foreign language for admission, but three years are recommended. This includes both UC San Diego (UCSD) and UCLA, which you are particularly interested in. The reason for the three-year recommendation is to ensure that high school graduates are well-prepared for college-level coursework, but two years is technically sufficient to meet the admission requirement.

It's worth noting, however, that requirements can sometimes vary between different programs within the UC system. So it's always a good idea to check the specific requirements of each program you're interested in. But generally speaking, for most programs, you should be fine with two years of Spanish under your belt!

Remember, you always want to look your best for college admissions, so the stronger your high school curriculum is, the better. This doesn't just apply to foreign languages, but also to other areas like English, mathematics, science, and social science. Applications are reviewed holistically, meaning that everything from grades, course rigor, essays, extracurricular activities, and personal qualities are taken into account. So while meeting the minimum requirements is crucial, going above and beyond when possible can also be beneficial. Good luck with your applications!
