Insight into Chipola Admissions?

Hey! I'm a junior considering applying to Chipola College. Does anyone know about its admissions process? Is it really competitive?

Although Chipola College primarily serves students in five Florida counties (Calhoun, Jackson, Liberty, Holmes, and Washington counties), it's open to students from anywhere. It operates on an open admissions policy, which essentially means that students who have graduated from high school or earned a GED are generally accepted.

However, for certain competitive programs, such as the nursing program, other criteria may be involved in the selection process. For these specific academic programs, the admissions process will be more competitive and will require additional application materials and prerequisites.

As far as testing goes, the Florida college system (including Chipola) traditionally requires placement tests in math, reading, and writing called the PERT (Postsecondary Education Readiness Test). However, you'll want to check and confirm if this requirement still stands given changes made due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Remember to start the application process early, ideally in your senior year of high school, so as to avoid any last-minute hassles. You'll need to submit your high school transcript or GED scores, your immunization records, and complete an application for admission. Following that, you should pay attention to registration dates to ensure you get a spot in the courses you want.

Overall, while getting into Chipola College might be fairly straightforward, the main challenge will often be getting into the specific program or course of interest, which could have additional criteria and/or be more competitive. It's advisable to directly reach out to the school's admissions office or visit their official website for the most accurate information on the specific program you're interested in.
