Need advice on the right college-related questions to ask

Okay, so I'm visiting a few colleges soon (mostly virtual tours) and need to prepare some insightful questions. Would love to get your suggestions on what to ask to get the most out of my visit.

Planning college visits is an exciting part of the college search process. Going prepared with targeted questions can really help you learn more about each campus and could significantly improve your chances of selecting the perfect school for you.

When talking to admissions officers or college students, here are a few questions I suggest:

1. What type of academic support does the college provide? It's important to ask this question to gauge how the school supports students academically. Are there free tutoring services? What about academic advisement or writing centers?

2. What are some of the unique traditions on campus? This can give you a sense of the campus culture and how students interact and engage with the college community.

3. Can you tell me about internship and research opportunities here? Depending on your intended major or field of study, having access to internships and research could be vital. This question will help you understand how the school facilitates these opportunities.

4. How do students engage with the local community? Colleges and universities often have different levels of involvement and engagement with the local communities they're a part of. This question can help you understand how much you will interact with the place where the school is located.

5. What is one thing you wish you had known as a freshman? This is a very telling question when asked to a current student. Their response may reveal insights about the college's environment, culture, or processes that you would not get elsewhere.

Don't forget to ask questions about what matters most to you. If you're into sports, inquire about the athletic scene. If you're concerned about safety, ask about the security measures in place on campus. Tailoring your questions not only helps you gather information but also demonstrates your genuine interest in the college. Good luck with your college visits!
