Boston College Undergrad Programs

Hey guys! I'm stressing a bit about choosing a major for BC. Can anyone in BC's undergrad programs provide some insight into the academic rigor and support offered there by the professors and staff?

Response: First off, congrats on considering Boston College (BC)! It's a wonderful institution with a wide array of strong programs. The academic rigor at BC is definitely something to keep in mind. Most courses indeed challenge students to think critically and delve deep into the material. While the workload can be substantial in many majors, this is also what helps prepare students well for their future careers or graduate studies.

In terms of support, you'll find that professors are very accessible and show a genuine interest in your growth. They often make themselves available via office hours and are usually open to discussing both academic and non-academic matters. It's always helpful to take advantage of these opportunities to engage with faculty and receive additional guidance.

BC also offers other academic support services that can aid students in their college journey. The Connors Family Learning Center, for instance, provides tutoring and resources for a vast range of subjects. The BC Career Center also offers support in defining career goals, finding internships or jobs, and prepping for interviews.

In regards to choosing a major, I recommend taking some basic prerequisite courses in your areas of interest during your first year. This approach can give you a taste of the coursework and help clarify your academic passions.

Remember, the journey to choosing a major is personal and can take a bit of exploration, so don't stress too much about having it all figured out right now. Flexibility is one of the beauties of an American college education. Good luck with your decision!
