White students at Howard University?

Hey there. I'm a white student looking into Howard University, and was wondering...are there other white students there? Can anyone in this community shed a light on the diversity scene at Howard?

Sure, happy to share some information! Howard University is one of America's historically Black colleges or universities, often referred to as HBCUs. These institutions were created to serve African American students when other colleges were not open to them, due to segregation. However, HBCUs are open to students of all races and ethnicities, and Howard is no exception.

That being said, the majority of Howard's student body is Black. According to the latest available data, around 67% of students identify as Black or African American. However, there is representation of a various range of racial and ethnic backgrounds on campus, including white students. It's important to note that the percentage of white students is relatively small, around 0.9%.

It's also worth highlighting Howard's international student population, which contributes to the overall diversity. Howard attracts students from a variety of countries.

Howard has a rich history and has been influential in Black cultural and intellectual life in the USA. Attending Howard as a non-Black student could provide an invaluable perspective that isn't often found at more racially homogeneous institutions. It’s indeed a great place to find yourself in diverse dialogues and enrich your educational experience.

However, it's always essential to visit campus, virtually or in-person, and reach out to current students to gain an understanding of if the college culture feels like a good fit for you. It's all about personal comfort and your educational goals.
