Can someone explain how CLEP exams are graded?

Just curious about the grading process for CLEP exams. Does anyone know how the scoring works and perhaps what the passing threshold generally is? I'm trying to set a target score for myself but not entirely sure what a good benchmark would be. Also, is there any particular strategy on answering questions I should be aware of, like is there a penalty for wrong answers?

Certainly, I'd be happy to explain the grading for CLEP exams. CLEP exams are scored on a scale of 20 to 80, with most colleges and universities considering a score of 50 to be the passing threshold for granting credit. This is equivalent to earning a 'C' in the corresponding college course. However, different institutions may have their own passing score policies, so it's always a good idea to check with the specific college you're interested in to know their requirements.

When it comes to answering questions, you'll be relieved to know that there is no penalty for incorrect answers on CLEP exams. This means you should answer every question, even if you are uncertain of the correct response, as a guess could potentially earn you additional points.

As for strategies, it's beneficial to familiarize yourself with the exam format and practice with sample questions or study materials. Knowing the types of questions and subjects covered can give you a strategic advantage while taking the test.

Setting a target score is an excellent idea, so aiming above the typical passing score, perhaps around 60 or 70, could give you a comfortable buffer and a strong chance of receiving credit for your efforts.
