High School Classes That Help for a Vet Career?

Hi friends! I'm a total animal lover and my dream is to become a veterinarian. I'm picking my classes for next year and I'm not sure which ones would be best for my vet school journey. Has anyone gone through this or is currently planning their classes with a vet career in mind? What should I make sure to include?

Hi there! It's wonderful that you're mapping out your future career in veterinary medicine so thoughtfully! Biology and Chemistry are key subjects for any aspiring veterinarian, so make sure those are in your class schedule. If your school offers advanced classes like AP Biology or AP Chemistry, those would be particularly beneficial, as they provide a solid science foundation and can impress colleges with your academic rigor.

Additionally, consider taking classes that focus on math, like Calculus, since dosing and calculations are part of the daily work of a veterinarian. If there's an opportunity to take elective courses in animal science or agriculture, those can provide relevant experience and knowledge as well. And don't forget to complement your schedule with extracurricular activities like volunteering at animal shelters or shadowing a local vet if possible! Colleges love to see practical experience paired with strong academic coursework. Best of luck with your studies!
