Meet the panelists: Alondra, Pilar, Kiya

Alondra is a sophomore from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. She is majoring in Health and Exercise Science on a pre-law track with minors in Public Health, Political Science, and Spanish. Alondra is involved with numerous mentoring and tutoring programs on campus, working particularly with POC in the Winston-Salem community. She is also passionate about creating change on campus and is in multiple student body committees. Outside of school, she enjoys playing her guitar, working out, and trying new foods!

Pilar is a sophomore at Wake Forest University. She is originally from Portland, Oregon but lived abroad in Brazil and Germany. She is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Politics and International Affairs with two minors in Psychology and Global Commerce Studies. She actively participates in Student Government at Wake Forest and is also a Resident Advisor. She is the President if intersectional feminist collective and is also part of a couple different working groups on campus. Outside of school she enjoys trying new foods, music, traveling, and hanging out with friends!

Kiya is a sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina. She is pursuing a Bachelor's in Communications with a minor in Spanish. Kiya is an active residential advisor for a first-year community, a supporter of the Black Student Alliance, and works on a team of athletic dieticians and nutritionists. Outside of school, she enjoys writing, spending time with her friends, and going to get smoothies.

Work Experience: I got my PhD in history from Boston University in 2020. I have worked as a researcher and writer for a Boston-based policy center and am a freelance editor.

My Admissions Story: I remember the admissions process as a time to imagine possible futures (where to live? what to study? who to meet?), though am happy to report (as you can see from my bio) that few of those decisions were set in stone. So have fun and enjoy the ride!
