Admissions Advice

Do you think the courses that I am taking is manageable?

I am going to be a junior next year, and I am registering for courses.

So far, I have 3 APs and 1 Honor that I want to take in junior year.

Below are the courses that I am planning to take:

English 11

AP United States History

Algebra II / Trigonometry

AP Psychology

AP Biology

Chemistry Honors

Marching Band (1 semester)

Korean 1 (Community College - High School Dual Enrollment)

Any recommendations about the courses that I am taking? Do you think the courses are manageable? What do I need to look out for?

i am taking two this year and they are pretty easy so i would recommend you take 3 or more

What do you mean? Do you mean you are taking 2 APs? On the list, I have 3 APs that I am planning to take.

Why are you taking both AP Bio and Chemistry honors in the same year? I think that's a little weird, but otherwise, everything looks okay. AP Psych tends to be a little bit easier, but make sure you pay attention in APUSH. Do you already know Korean? Asian languages tend to be a lot harder for native English speakers if they aren't immersed in the environment at home, especially as a college level dual enrollment class. I think a better use of your time would be a different dual enrollment class (unless you already know korean and are using it to pad your gpa.)

at my high school, we took chemistry ninth grade and AP bio tenth (we don't have normal bio). it's a stem school, but the normal high schools in the area take normal/gifted/honors bio ninth and chemistry 10th. i just haven't heard of someone not taking either until 11th grade, let alone at the same time so late. it'll probably be somewhat helpful anyway, bc chemistry is applied in bio all the time and it'll be fresh in their mind.

Our school offers Physics in the Universe, Living Earth (Biology), and Chemistry of Life Systems (Chemistry). If we chose Physics in the Universe, there tend to be more honor pathways that we can go to, such as Biology Honors and Chemistry Honors. If we chose Biology in freshman year, there would only be Chemistry Honors available.

But, choosing the Physics in the Universe is more challenging because if you are in a situation like mine, the first semester would be a little harder since they would review Chemistry materials first, then go in-depth biology. If you study Chemistry beforehand, the course would be a little easier, so that is what I am doing. I am just learning Chemistry myself, so when I get into Chemistry Honors and AP Biology, I would be on the same page as the people in AP Biology.
