I am finishing Junior year in high school. When should I start writing my college essays?

the common app will usually release prompts early in the summer (if not before), and it's a good idea to start writing your common app essay early, since it's the core one that goes to all of your schools.

school supplement essays (essays that individual schools require in addition to your common app) are usually available on august 1, since that's when the actual common app goes up for that year. some people try to start those early by looking at the previous year's prompts, but something like 40-50% of those prompts change from year to year, so it's really easy to end up wasting time if you start working on those before august. still, you should start looking through the prompts for the schools you're interested in as soon as they're available.

I'd begin drafts as soon as you can! Even if you don't get your final product, it'll take some of the stress off of application season. Good luck!
