I have a friend who lives in a dorm all by her self because she is the floor's RA. I think most schools give RAs their own rooms, but I could be wrong. Also if dorm life isn't for you (that's how it was for my brother), then you can always get an apartment close to campus. My brother lived with 4 other guys, but he had his own bedroom and bathroom so if he didn't want to be near them then he had his own personal space.

yeah it's usually possible to get your own room in a dorm (they're called singles). it's just usually more expensive than living in a double (with one roommate), usually $1000-$2000 more on the year.
