Greetings, everyone
I'm a 9th grader studying in CBSE-affiliated school and i later plan on taking IBDP. I'm reaching out to you guys because I need suggestion on whether I should take AP tests or not as I've to put extra effort studying for the subjects and moreover we haven't been introduced to Calculus yet!
Thank you for your time, I hope to hear from any of you soon.
Does your school offer AP courses or follow the AP curriculum? If the answer is yes, definitely. If your school doesn’t offer AP courses then it doesn’t look bad on your college apps (since your school doesn’t offer them), nevertheless you should take some AP tests that you can prepare for.
Once you take Calc you should definitely take the test.
If you take them and score well (usually a 4 or 5) for a limited amount of them you could get college credit (depends per school how many they accept). In general if they aren't a financial burden and you can do well having the tests will show colleges you can perform well in college level material which is great as they love to see rigor. Plus admissions aside if you put in the work they really can help prepare you for college and university as most people I know always say high school didn't prepare them well for it.
You should definitely take APs if they are available to you. Take the AP Calc AB/BC later on. Now you can take the subjects you have studied for and feel confident in. If you feel confident that you will perform well in a subject which you haven't studied in school, you can still take the test.
you should definitely take at least 1 or 2 ap tests. colleges love to know that you at least tried the harder classes that your school offers. The worst thing that can happen is you fail of course but ap exams do not affect your grade as your grade will not come until the middle of the summer and you may get a 3, 4, or 5 meaning it can count as credit outside of high school into college.
