I like to watch recordings of profile reviews on Collegevine live streams, and I keep noticing how a lot of applicants have REALLY strong extracurriculars--e.g., earning tens of thousands of dollars, running presidential campaigns, or recognition at the national level. I transferred just last year and was wondering whether it's just the pool of Collegevine users that have above-average extraccs? Or do a lot of high schoolers have at least one of these stats?
I would say that the majority of high schoolers have less competitive ECs than the CollegeVine users who submit profiles for live review. Students without exceptional ECs tend to not feel as confident about submitting their profile as stronger applicants. As a reference, the average high schooler will have an EC list that looks something like this:
- Soccer, JV or below
- NHS, NEHS, NMHS
- At-school speech and debate club
- Casual community service volunteering
- Part-time job on the weekends
Hope this helps!
