Location of college for law school
Answered

Hello! I'm a rising senior in high school and I know that I want to work as an attorney in NYC, so going to law school in New York would be beneficial. That being said, should I go to college in NY or does it not really matter what city/state I get my bachelors from?

Because I have heard that attending college in NY would be beneficial since I would be able to build a better network for law school than if I were attending college across the country; but other than that I have no reason to attend college in NY and would rather be in the south for the time being.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @anushasinghal! If you ultimately want to end up in NY, I think getting your bachelors there is a great idea, especially because you'll be able to start building that strong network really soon, which will help you for law school. Depending on the college you are looking at there, they may even have partnerships with local law schools and might have programs/events that you would be able to attend as an undergrad.

That being said, I suggest you choose a college that has the best resources for your pre-law studies. If you happen to stay in the south for college, you can always try to get a law-based internship in NY during one of your college summers. When it comes around to applying to law school, if you can effectively explain why you want to practice law in NY, I think you'll still be an exceptional candidate regardless of whether or not you went to undergrad there!
