Admissions Advice

Retaking SAT
Answered

As a senior applying regular decision, can I take the March SAT and update colleges if I get a better score? In theory, since their admissions decision can be released on April 1, the scores can come out before that. Would it be a good idea to take it and update them? Note: my score puts me in the lower percentile of many schools I'm applying to.

If not, what are other things I can do meanwhile to improve my admission chances?

Hi @2bdo! At most schools, the last test date accepted is usually November or December. An exception to this would be a college with rolling admissions - they may accept a March test date as long as the deadline to apply hasn't passed.

Also, when you're signing up for the last test date, you have to put the names of the colleges down that you want to receive your score, so you wouldn't be able to see your score before it is sent.

Ultimately, if you want colleges to review your test score, you should reach out on a college-by-college basis to see the process and if it is even allowed. We don't recommend this extra hassle unless the score is projected to be significantly different. But again, that is something you will not know for sure because you will not see the score since you want it to be sent to the colleges as soon as it's available.

Hope that helps!

No you can not do this because no colleges will accept the March 2022 test scores since they don't come out until 3/25. By that time, all decisions are already made any the decision packages are on their way to the applicants.

December is the last date and that is why collegeboard purposely doesn't have Jan or Feb test dates.

Good luck.
