Hey, I was wondering if there are some unique extra-curricular activities that I should attempt to bolster my university application in any STEM-related field. I have searched this up on the internet and the results seem very generic.
I was hoping anyone had some insight.
PS. I live outside the USA so many activities that have come up are only USA-based, so if anyone has any international extra-curricular activities it will be much appreciated.
Thanks
I don't really know what all you've found or what it's like to be an international applicant but I think there are many summer programs that you can do. But, if you don't really like that then I'd recommend joining STEM-related clubs or creating your own. You could also email various doctors, researchers, and professors and ask if you can shadow them or even help with their research. You could also look into online programs and courses.
Summer Programs (I know these are a lot of programs by highly selective schools and I apologize):

And there is definitely more out there, so if you are interested in summer programs you can find more. Also, you can do a capstone or independent study project, and I don't know much about those so you might need to look into those. But I really hope you find something that interests you!
Hello! If you have any interest in music (creating) or learning to play an instrument then I would suggest band. Many colleges like STEM students that have participated in band and won awards, or were high ranking. The reason is because of the time and precision it takes to learn and play a instrument. If you are strapped for time, (Or don't like this idea) then I would get involved with any local community groups. You could start your own group as well or develop an app to demonstrate in future interviews.
I hope this helps, good luck!!
there are opportunities like The New York Academy Of Sciences, which international students are open to apply, and despite such programs seeming hard to get into, I mean they could be, but just trust yourself and follow your heart and work hard in the application and you can surely do it! RSI (Research Science Institute) I think is also open for international students, and yes, is competitive but just work hard and do your best and give it your all, I'm sure you will achieve something one day!
To keep this community safe and supportive:
wow - thanks so much - I will for sure check these out!
