Hi everyone,
First question, does anyone have experience with the accuracy of the CollegeVine admissions calculator ("chancing")? These percentages feel a little bit optimistic.
My daughter is American but has been attending an IB high school in China. Is there an accurate way to add the Chinese experience into the calculator?
My daughter (currently a Junior) is taking the regular IB diploma program classes... 3 "standard level" and 3 "high level"... does the calculator view this as six total IB classes? Or 12 classes when considering she will take all six for two years to obtain the IB diploma? Or does she also include the freshman and sophomore classes, which weren't part of the IB diploma program but still taken within the IB high school system?
Thanks everyone!
Hi @ShWood!
I am an advisor on CollegeVine and I have talked about the chancing engine with our engineers. I can assure you that the chancing engine is accurate, and recently it was updated with more accurate admissions data. The engine is now less optimistic in most cases.
Your daughter can add her IB classes to her CollegeVine profile. She can also indicate that she is an international applicant.
As for the level of her classes, she should enter any class taken during her junior and senior years with "IB" in the course title as IB classes. The level of each class does not change how it is counted. She should also report these classes as 12 in total to match the 4-year format that US colleges use. Freshman and sophomore classes should be reported on her CollegeVine profile too, but they will count as standard or honors classes instead of IB classes.
I hope this helps! I'd be happy to continue the discussion during a free consultation.
Best,
Alex
