Is my Common App essay topic too common?
Answered

I have decided to write my Common App essay about music, and how it has connected me to my family and helped me get through hard times in my life. Is this a good topic? I have heard that a lot of people write about music, and I do not want my essay to be thrown aside with the rest of them.

There are always going to be people that write something similar to what your topic is, so I think what is actually important is to write about something you are passionate about that can really show your personality. As long as you make the narrative and essay unique to your situation, I definitely believe that your topic fine. Include questions and reflections that really make your voice stand out and that will help too.
