Is my essay topic too broad?
Answered

I finished my common app essay about my ethnicity and how it sort of defines me in a way, but was told that this topic was overused and washed out. Is this true? Do I need to write about something else?

That area of topic is overused but if your ethnicity is not a common area that uses it like Pacific Islander Native American then it should work but latinx Asian generally don’t work well with that.

If you change it it so it is more about defeating stereotypes example Asian who does liberal arts not stem or some other way of “breaking the mold” then that should work and doesn’t require as much retooling.
