Any general tips for coming up with a subject for writing the common app essay?
Answered

Hello, I'm a rising senior and have been stressed about the common app process since I started high school. I feel like I have nothing to write about and I fear that I won't be able to stand out to the admission officers. Help !

You should definitely NOT write about an experience on some sort of service trip like if you went to Africa or South America because it makes you sound wealthy and like they need your saving. Also don't write a pity essay like the time your dog died or something. But for something to write, you could write about a realization you had, a journey that you had to taken multiple times and how it changed through out your life, or someone who has made an impact on your life. The actual theme of the essay doesn't have to be that complex, but you should really show your voice through it. Obviously you don't want to sound dumb, but sometimes the most memorable essays aren't the ones that sounded the smartest but the ones with the best tone. I hope this helps!
