Can I write my common app essay about photography if I want to major in biology?
Answered

Hello! After weeks of trying to figure out what my topic would be about, I finally decided on something that changed my life and allowed me to experience it differently. This was photography and I really want to write my common application essay on it. However, I want to pursue a career in the medical field meaning I will have to major in biology. Will an essay about photography lessen my chances of getting into a college such as Johns Hopkins?

Yes especially as it is unique just say make sure to include your personality not just anecdotes. Also you may want to say photography taught me x I’ll use x in Medford by doing y

hey, although having ONE of your essays about the medical field or medical correlated cativities would be great and will show your commitment to being a med student even before uni.however talking about your passion will help the admission officer to get to know you and see if you're compatible with thw school's philosophy .you don't really have to worry about it especially if you have activities related to the med field such as medical internships ,research opportunities, shadowing a doctor or volunteering at your local hospital.

btw i would like to apply to jhu too :)

good luck with your essays and don't forget to put some extra effort in your supplemental essay.
