I'm currently a freshman in high school and summer is right around the corner. I only have 1 month of school left. I want to be more productive over the summer and I was wondering if anyone has any extracurricular ideas that I can do over the summer? I'm really interested in the biology and STEM field and I was wondering if anyone knows of any summer programs that are happening this year or in the future? I want to work in the medical field in the future and I've been looking for some medical/research internships and other research opportunities but I haven't been able to find any. I live in the state of Florida and if anyone knows of any research opportunities at colleges or internships in Florida it would be extremely helpful. If anyone has any extracurricular ideas that I could do to stand out to top colleges (particularly the Ivy Leagues), that would also be really helpful.
Thank you :)
Volunteer hours and being active in community help is something that colleges really love! Find a local business in your area or go to your local Chamber of Commerce and ask them what you can do. Anything that is helpful to your community could work!
I found some places in Florida with summer medical programs and I put the links below.

I hope these help.
Also, remember not to get too obsessed with college and your career. It might be good to do some other programs not associated with your career field but you enjoy. Just and idea.
That's crazy, I'm a Florida student interested in bio too who had the same question! What I'm planning to do is the University of Florida's (CPET) Pre-College summer scholars program. Although it's noncredit, it's online and only $200 per class, a good deal compared to a lot of other schools. I'm planning on doing a three week class on cancer biology, something I'm very interested in, and another class on intro to research, which I know will help set a good foundation as a hopeful premed.
Although I can't speak to how much this would help you stand out, there's such a wide range of classes that it's hard not to find something intriguing. Good luck in your search!
Here are two CollegeVine blog posts which list summer opportunities that could be a good fit for you:
1. 20 STEM Internships for High Schoolers
2. 15 Medical Internships for High School Students
3. 15 Summer Programs in Florida for High Schoolers
Hope this helps!
