I posted a question like this not too long ago, but things have been updates since then I was hoping to get more feedback on my extracurriculars. Are there any other things that I can do to expand my extracurriculars to improve my chances of getting into a top college? My GPA and coarse load are "excellent" according to the chancing simulator, but my extracurriculars aren't. Any ways that I can expand on these apart from my current plans?
- Junior Editor of the school newspaper (hoping to become Editor-In-Chief Senior Year)
- Secretary of the school literary journal (hoping to become Lit Jour President Senior Year)
- Staff member of the school Yearbook
- Lawyer for school's Mock Trial Team
- Starred in school play
- Published in multiple literary magazines
- Had a play produced in a plays festival at Bryant Park
- Started my own initiative where I teach around twenty five NYC Middle School students about creative writing (hoping to expand to more cities- I have a plan to get to at least ten others after test running the program in NYC)
- Hoping to publish a novel (fingers crossed!!!!)
Thank you!
Q. What are you most interested in studying? English, Political Science, Journalism, Theatre? If these are your interests, then I think you are doing an excellent job at your ECs. My only suggestion is that you join some outside of school non-profit for some leadership experience. Maybe you can start over the summer.
Good luck.
You can always volunteer because it shows you are really involved and help out in your community and that is what colleges are always looking for. I would definitely make sure to have some sort of volunteering in your extracurriculars. I would also recommend maybe joining more clubs as that always helps especially if they are related to your major. You have very good extracurriculars right now and I think even if you do more that aren't as strong it still helps to have them. Most of all though volunteering looks great on applications especially the more you do. Hope this helps!
To keep this community safe and supportive:
Yes, I'm most interested in studying Political Science, and since most of my writing is very politically orientated I could use writing in my future career! I actually did do an internship at a non-for-profit called Writopia during the school year that I just finished up and completely forgot to include on this list lol. But I'll definitely do more.
