Junior screwed my GPA due to covid
Answered

Hello, I went from 3.2 to 2.66 by the end of my junior year due to covid and moving school 3 times, right now I wanted to pursue my education at the University of Houston after senior year I'm sitting at 2.78 out 5 (got all b's still nothing). What should I do? I have a lot of extracurricular activities that are super strong to make me stand out as leadership and hard-working person and in addition to volunteer hours. any tips/comments would be helpful thank you <3

I'm a bit confused about your question so can you clarify whether you are Junior or a Senior. "right now I wanted to pursue my education at the University of Houston after senior year I'm sitting at 2.78 out 5" reads as if you are already a senior so that's why I'm asking. If you are not graduating this month from HS and will be a senior next fall, then I recommend that you get a decent score on your SAT or ACT. The University of Houston has a table of what kind of SAT/ACT scores you need based on your rank in your HS. Also, they have a GPA cutoff, if you do not have a test score. Your 2.78 currently doesn't qualify you as a viable applicant to the UofHouston because their GPA cutoffs are 3.70-3.80 for those who rank in the top 50% of the graduating class.

And if you are not ranked in the top 50%, then your application will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Here is the table provided by the UofH website.

University of Houston Admission Requirements

Minimum Test Scores

Class Rank SAT Score ACT Score Without a Test Score

Top 25% 1170 24 3.70

26 - 50% 1220 25 3.80

Less than 51% Individual review

So you should be studying hard on the SAT or ACT this summer and aim to get at least a 1220 on the SAT and a 25 on the ACT. If you haven't done so, choose the test based on what your strengths are. I recommend taking a practice test for each and going with the one you get a higher baseline score.

Good luck.
