Hi everyone! Some background info: I'm a rising junior with a 4.25 WGPA and I am looking to major in neuroscience or something related to the medical field. I have taken 2 APS and the rest are all honors classes. I hope to do 7 APS by the end of my senior year.
Here are my extracurriculars so far:
- Made a documentary on the impact COVID had on mental health
- I created a website for health/science/news updates
- A HOSA officer at my school
- A Link Crew leader
- I created a mental health podcast that now has 25+ episodes on all things mental health and the brain
- I volunteer at my church and the local hospital consistently
- I will hopefully be the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper + secretary for NHS my senior year!
I'm also going to be an officer for a few cultural clubs at school. I have 66 hours of community service right now. My SAT score is 1550.
Is this a strong enough application for top Florida schools like UF? What things can I improve/work on during junior and senior year for top colleges?
Thank you!
Though I cannot give you an exact estimate of your chances without knowing more information about your profile, I would say that your academics and extracurriculars are certainly competitive for top Florida schools. Your SAT score in particular would make you a competitive applicant at the Top 20 schools in the nation!
I would say that you could improve your application by making sure that you are maximizing your course rigor. If your high school offers 7 APs total and you plan on doing 7, that will look great! But if they offer more, try to do at least 4 per year as an upperclassman. Hope this helps!
