rising Senior and Duke is the most selective college on my college list. I plan on doing ED but it says I have only a 18% chance at it lmao. it was 28 the other day
for reference:
- I am a black female from Florida
- not low income/first gen (parents have doctorates).
- 34 act score
- I’ve currently taken 2 APs (AP lang and apush) and one Dual credit class, planning to take 3 more APs (AP Lit, AP Bio, Ap Stats) and take psychology online.
- 3.95 UW and 4.3 W gpa
- no honors classes were available at my school 9-11th
Ecs:
- kumon instructor for English and math for 2.5 years
- academic Coach/volunteer for low income students in english and essays (6+ months by the time I apply)
- volunteered at library (20+ hours)
- staff writer for mental health website
- might work on a short visual novel abt psychological conditions, (not publishing it tho lol)
are there any internships I can do related to my writing/psychology spike? or where should I volunteer maybe? idk what to do this summer. or online research with academic horizons?
I would highly suggest starting your own initiatives like a writing club or something related to your desired major. You can start a writing blog, write for your school's newspaper, write for local papers, or enter writing competitions
Try cold emailing local papers and ask them if you can work with them. Also, congrats on the ACT score. I would appreciate some ACT tips.
This CollegeVine blog post lists some activities that would bolster your writing spike. Hope this helps!
To keep this community safe and supportive:
For the math and English sections, do practice problems and use IXL.com for math/reading to work on specific areas that you need help with. For reading and science sections, skim the passages beforehand and then go as quickly through the questions as possible so you don’t run out of time. Also, use process of elimination when in doubt!
