I know it seems like a dumb question, I apologize.
The school in question is around top 10% in the country according to Niche and US News' Best High Schools rankings. That being said, it probably has more people that desire to attend a top university than other high schools. I'm a B student at "normal" school. How much would I need to 'step-up' my game compared to how I would in a non-magnet school to have a chance at being admitted into a good school?
I think you being the special magnet program is a good start. However, if you aspiring for the top schools (MIT, Harvard, Caltech, etc.) you should try to 'step-up' your game into the "A" range and be in at least the top 20% if not better in your graduating class.
