How many Letters Of Recommendation are required for a college application? I realize that there is no fixed number but how many make a good application?

There's no such thing. Think quality not quantity. Most colleges allow up to 3 letters(1 from guidance counselor and 2 from teachers) but some also allow additional ones from other people who know you really well. I submitted 4 recommendation letters and a 1520 SAT to a college with average SAT around 1370 yet did not get accepted.
Admission officers spend an average of 7-10 min per application, so it's very likely that they won't read all of your rec letters. If you're banking on getting lots of rec letters to strengthen your application, just take the above point into consideration.
