Increasing my chances at American University
Answered

Hello I was wondering if anyone had any advice for increasing my chances of being accepted into American University? I currently have a ~3.5 GPA and I attended the National Student Leadership Conference at their campus, which I hope gives me a boost, but what else could I be doing better to increase my chances?

Adding to that I will have taken 6 AP classes by the end of high school so that should be helpful

Hi @BBoothe,

Thanks for your question.

Things that would help your admissions chances to American University would be:

-Submitting a good test score like a 1380 SAT and a 31 ACT.

-Continuing an upward trend with your grades and course rigor since the middle 50% of admits has a GPA of 3.63-4.15 or 3.85 avg.

-Picking a major that is under-subscribed(history, english, environmental) versus over-subscribed (social sciences, business, or communications). You can always switch after a semester or two.

-Since American cares a lot if you have demonstrated interest make sure you get on all their email lists, join their info sessions, visit the campus, and join their insta, facebook, linkedin, and twitter. And you don't have those social media accounts set them up and connect to AU.

-Lastly, Apply Early Decision because their ED rate is something like 80% versus 40% which is a 2X boost to your admissions chances.

Good luck.
