I am currently a Senior looking for teachers for my college recommendations. I originally planned on asking one STEM and one humanities teacher, since I will mostly apply to a political science major. However, my junior year history teacher just moved, and my junior year English teacher only accepted 10 students for a letter.
Currently, I plan on having two STEM teachers write a recommendation for me, and I have a good relationship with both of these teachers. I also have a third recommender which is in the political science field. However, is it a good idea to seek two STEM teacher recommendations for applying to a major like political science?
Hi MVlory! Whatever you do, do not choose a teacher that is too honest or a teacher you might have beef with because I know some teachers that have literally ruined a student’s chances of getting into college by saying really negative things about them.
Submitting two recommendations from STEM teachers along with the political science recommender will definitely work. Though it is preferable for your teacher recommenders to teach in the same field as your intended major, this is not a hard requirement - it is much more important for your teachers to know you well and have lots of positive things to say about you in the classroom. Hope this helps!
