Hi! i'm a junior in high school. Over the summer, I worked on assembling a team for a nonprofit and submitted an application for a grant through a youth innovation program. today i was awarded $1000-the largest amount able to be given- to pursue the project and apply for nonprofit status. will the earning of this grant money set me apart from other teen nonprofit founders in the college admissions process? if so, how much?
@biaimpe sure! i was accepted into a spring fellowship program w/ civics unplugged-https://www.civicsunplugged.org/ and later developed a project with an assigned mentor and applied for funding through their program!
Do you recommend their program? I'm thinking of applying to the spring fellowship!
This will set you apart a lot from the majority of teen nonprofit founders! Most nonprofits founded and run by high schoolers do not receive any significant amount of donations or grants. They typically work on projects that only require volunteer labor rather than capital. The nonprofits that do receive funding are often chapters of a national organization.
Getting accepted for a grant is also an award that you could include in the Honors section of the Common App. Most applicants have not won awards that give prize money, so yours will be seen as impressive. Hope this helps!

Would you mind describing what sort of nonprofit and innovation program you're involved in? I'm hoping to do something similar soon and I'm not sure where to start. Thanks!
