I'm a resident of Washington State and want to pursue a degree in computer science. How hard is it to get into University of Washington computer science/applied computational and mathematical sciences direct to major admission as an in state student? What are the usual stats and does doing running start help?
I'm also a student that has just applied for UW. The UW CS program is one of the hardest to get into in the entire school. However, data science or applied math data science is a little easier.
UW's stats are high, but not impossible at all.
Running start doesn't increase your chances, but it does give you more opportunities to take classes that may help you get into the CS program, since colleges have more CS classes.
If you're taking the SAT, aim for 1400-1500, or higher. Your GPA should be above a 3.5, and UW also prioritizes the essays and your extracurriculars. Being in state also will help your chances. Another thing you can do is transfer to computer science if you don't get in first try!
If possible, get an internship and/or as much experience in the computer science field as you can.
