should I write a letter of continued interest?
Answered

Hi!

Last week, I was defferred from Northeastern early action. I clicked the continue interest button on their form but I was wondering if it would be helpful to write a letter of continued interest with updated information on grades, extracurriculars, etc? Northeastern is my #2 school following Stanford and I know both schools are definitely reaches for me (I have a 3.61 UW GPA) but I also have 3 acceptances all accompanied by merit-based scholarships from 2k per year to 20k per year that aren't necessarily bad choices for me, and are easier for my family to help me pay for financially. The majority of schools I applied to are reaches with the exception of two safety schools I've received acceptances from and I am hoping to apply for the honors college at Western Washington University which was one of my safeties. Wherever I end up, I'm sure I'll find ways to challenge myself and be involved, however I do love Northeastern and I want to increase my chances of being able to go to school there as much as possible.

I recommend writing a LOCI, as it will only increase your odds of admission. If you get into Northeastern, you can then write an appeal to their financial aid office and tell them about your scholarships to build your case. Here is a CollegeVine guide with tips for writing a LOCI. Hope this helps!

I got deferred too. I think we should write a LOCI especially if we like it a lot and for you it seems as you do as it's your 2nd choice school.
