I am a junior currently and super stressed about getting into a college I want. I really want to go to UC Davis but I am afraid my grades are holding me back. I would have been close to an unweighted 3.8 if it were not for advanced math. Last year I took honors math 3/pre calc and got C's for half of the year. This year I am in AP Calc AB and I am on track to have C's for the class this year as well. Other than that, I feel pretty good about my grades and the amount of APs I am taking. I want to be accepted into the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UCD and am not sure that AP math is even a requirement. I volunteer weekly at my local library, I am a trail monitor volunteer at my city persevere, and I volunteer for an elementary school PTA. I am in dual enrollment as well, and plan to have taken 6 classes finished by the time I apply for college and work on 2 more my senior year. I am also struggling to figure out if I should take AP Calc BC next year because I'm worried I'll be stress/still get C's, but if I drop down to regular statistics (or AP Stats, but those are my only other options) I think it will look bad that I did not take the highest level possible ("most rigorous" I believe is a standard for UCs). Does anyone have any suggestions or know if it is even possible for me to get UCD at this point?
In my opinion, if your getting Cs in an advanced class, then the rigor isn't worth it.
Secondly, your ECs could use more leadership positions (maybe be the founder and president of a environmental club, or 4h?), and more related to your interests. But it's important to remember UC Davis's acceptance rate is essentially 50%. Doing any of this would just significantly boost those already great chances.
That being said, it's totally and completely likely you might get accepted. Don't lose hope unnecessarily. Like I said, it's already a coin toss. Just make your essays the best you can, and you should have a great chance.
Hello,
You seem like a person I would be friends with in high school. I am facing a similar dilemma as a high school junior. I keep going on chance-me calculators and am not liking what I am seeing for my dream schools. However, my peers are telling me that I cannot do much more. By graduation, I will have over 60 college credits by taking 21 dual enrollment courses. I also have 1 AP course and will have a total of eight honors classes under my belt. I feel like this is not good enough so I am constantly looking for opportunities to boost my chances of getting accepted. A few opportunities I have found that you might find helpful are internships in your intended field of study. You can also take a few Coursera certificate courses to add a little more "oomph" to your college resume.
Honestly, with the amount of AP courses you have, I feel like you have a great chance of getting into UCD, but like I said, I am facing the same dilemma. Let's hope we can both get through this one!

Thank you so much for your response. If everything goes according to plan, I should be the band president at my school next year. I am also completely involved in the band at my school, often staying from 7:15 am to 9 pm, and I am in the honors band, marching band, jazz band, and drumline. I should also be section leader for three of those groups next year and want to minor in music at UCD. Will any of that affect my application? Or will the grades still bring me down?
