Answered

hello! i’m struggling to decide if i should take on internships to help boost my college application. i got offered an internship for social media marketing, and i’m planning on entering the business field. this was a remote internship for a non profit, but it’s unpaid…

Money should not be your only motivation. :) If you are truly interested in the opportunity and working in social media management, I say go for it! Also colleges may like that you are spending your time doing something you are passionate about without getting paid. However, if you are not interested, try finding another internship opportunity.

I'd say if it's something you're genuinely interested in and will enjoy, then go for it! It definitely will look good on apps, but that shouldn't be your only motivator. Unpaid internships are oftentimes inaccessible for students due to financial reasons so I think it could boost your app but definitely won't hurt you if you don't do it. Working for free really sucks sometimes, so make sure it's something you want to do.
